Batur is a volcano mountain that already erupted for several times in the past. Due the eruption in the past, there is a caldera area which consist of frozen lava that become rocks. That area is completely black if we see from above. It is because really hard for planting a big tree or farming. The frozen lava rocks is very strong and it is very hard to dig. Also, that area announced to be a National Geopark and Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. Lava rocks covers half of the mountain and half of them is not covered. It is having really good soil for farming due the blending of the volcano dust with the soil.
Alongside the Batur Volcano, there is a lake that named Batur Lake as well. In that lake, the local people can do fresh water fish farming. There is combination view of the Volcano Mountain, Lake, Black Caldera area, and green forest. And of course sunrise from the mountain top is a wonderful experience during travelling in Bali.
Activity Itinerary
To do sunrise trekking at the Batur Mountain, we need to depart very early from the hotel with our Bali tour driver. If you are staying at Denpasar, we need to depart from the hotel around 1.30 – 2.00 am. It takes about 2 hour drive from Denpasar area to reach the trekking start point on the mountain feet. When you reach the starting point, there are several things you need to do before start. You have to fill form for each member that going up the mountain. Then, you have to introduce yourself with the professional local trekking guide. That trekking guide will inform all the important things beforehand. It is to make sure everybody know what they need to do to keep safe during the activity.
Some warming up to prepare your muscle also necessary to do before start climbing up. We have to take it seriously to avoid any cram or fatal muscle injuries caused by trekking up the mountain. It will take about 1.5 – 2 hours walk to reach the mountain top from the starting point. So we need to start climbing up around 4 am to reach the top before sunrise. The sunrise will be around 6 – 6.30 am. During the sunrise you may have some light breakfast. And we highly recommend not take much breakfast on the top due you are going to walk down later on. On the side of the lake, there are several natural hot spring managed by the local. Having relaxation at the hot spring will be nice for your muscle.
